There exists a 3rd party firmware for some model of Canon cameras, like SX100, G9 and etc.

Quite useful.
RAW pic output, battery status report, histogram & Scripting......

It doesn't write into the flash but use the upgrade process to kick start this overlay firmware. Safe to use in my case of SX100
