compared before buying 5DII ... purely for the movie feature

1. high ISO noise of D700 is at least 1-stop above that of 5DII
2. with good lighting at ISO200, 5DII's resolution cannot be beaten ... of course, you'll have to print posters to see it (or view 100% on screen)
3. 5DII lighter and has better grip for Asians; if you have a big hand, D700 feels better
4. D700 better built ... better attention to details like camera strap eyelet ...
5. D700 better AF tracking - more points and not concentrated
6. More full frame EF lenses than FX Nikkors
7. Movie mode on 5DII - high picture quality but low usability

me too, it is very important for me to travel for take some good quality movie. i don't want to bring one more dv to record better quality of movie.

e.g. noise level of pictures taken at ISO3200 on D700 is about the same with that of pictures taken at ISO1600 on 5DII

there are many samples on the web ... pls. check them yourself

by high ISO, I mean something like ISO1600 and above. 5DII and D700 are so clean that you'll feel less of an impact of noise at say, ISO800 and below. at ISO 200-400, 5DII's picture can be regarded as noise-free (well, some people may disagree ...)

I don't know your definition, but by low usability, I mean no practical AF, no control over aperture/shutter speed/ISO etc. ... you'll have to press AF-ON all the time, and hopefully the AF is confirmed in 3s (haven't actually clocked it but it feels like forever); audio noise of USM motor recorded on the movie if you use AF; video interference (horizontal streaks ...) of some (not all) USM motor when using AF; holding a heavy DSLR for video is uncomfortable to say the least (pls. try it in the shops); no electronic zoom ... if these are acceptable, just do it ...

I use 5DII for movie with pre-foucus when my kids are not moving ... on other occassions, I'll just take out my good old HDV and accept the lower video quality

rumours are that there will be a firmware update that releases the aperture control ... who knows when ...

consider 270EX the new "built-in flash" ... at a cost, but with bounce flashing ... at the size/weight, I wouldn't dismount it

and D700's built-in flash can be used as a master flash ... very handy, but the drawback is that it can't be disabled if you want multiple flash w/o direct flash ... have to use SU-800 instead

5DII (and 5D)'s power button location is inconvenient ... probably for the "wheel" ...

Oh, whilst I don't currently owned a D700, I do own other Nikons/Nikkors and don't rule out the possibility of getting a D700 (or the rumoured D750) to parallel run 2 FF systems under different situations.

Of course not

Good question ... yes, you have no idea how difficult it is to zoom smoothly manually with 5DII handheld ... electronic zoom will be more convenient ... can only be on 5DIII (and around the grip, pls.), if ever available.
