I have tested over 6 times between 500D and 50D, with different lens.

I can assure you that, the pq of 500D is exactly the same as 50D (For ISO 800 or below). 50D is only slightly better than 500D at ISO1600+. But 500D has the new technology which can eliminate the darken corners at high aperture.

You will definitely regret if you get 50D instead. To me, the only advantage of 50D is the LCD monitor on top of the camera.

Some people thinks the shutter sound of 500D is weird. But I don't think it has any problem. So, the sound will not affect the pq, right?

50D will be retired very soon I guess. Canon should release 60D very soon, with the HD video features and higher resolution.

I forgot to mention that, another advantage of 50D is the high speed continuous shooting. So ask yourself if you need this feature
