Since 20D, all DSLR of CANON such as 450D, 500D can use ALL canon EF lenses AND EF-S lenses, 10D & some models before can only use EF lenses (if using EF-S lens, the bottom of the lens must be removed by modification)

BUT if your old canon lenses are in FD or FL mount, u have to buy an adapter (with a glass element) to mount it on DSLR of CANON

not recommended as the quality of the image degrades by that adaptor, moreover that kind of adaptor is not cheap of around $700 as it has a lens on it to give you infinity focus point.
