17-40.F4L picture quality is slightly better than 16-35/2.8L II

Sigma 12-24 is ultra ultra wide angle....

16 or 17 is wide angle only

17-40 is exceptionally good value for money.

One of the considerations is whether you need a fast lens. If you take a lot of indoor photos, then 16-35 f2.8 has its advantage, ...... but 5D MkII has exceptional ISO performance, I can make good 4R photos setting ISO at 3200!
