C Hing

I am using 400D, canon has those 9 points focus, however, the camera usually only automatically select 3 points radomly to focus each time.

Are there any way I can choose all 9 points to focus in the same time and I can select with 3 points to focus?

If I am correct, the "9" points focus can only be automatic activited with the AI Servo AF (AI SERVO) /AI Focus AF (AI FOCUS) mode.
You can select one only (any one of the "9" focus point) in other mode for precise focusing.

From my understanding, you can select 1 point or 9 points.
For 9 points, system will detect all the objects on 9 points are in focus or not. If yes, the red brackets will be on. So it's not random 3 points, but 0 to 9 points in focus is possible. 9 points system is activate in all focusing mode (one-shot, AI-servo, AI-focus). If there are few objects in range, it will choose the closest object to focus.
For 1 point, system will only check the points you predefined (you can choose any one from the 9 points). And it's only hit or not hit.
The answer of your question. First, you can not choose all 9 points to hit, but camera to determine how many points are being hit. Second, you can only select 1 point instead of 3, to check whether it hit the focus. For the detail of choosing focus point. you can check the manual. =D
