I brought 40d 10 days ago, and now i am in the UK. I planned to buy sigma 17-70mm lens for my new canon. But after i fixed sigma lens to my 40d, the lens could not be driven and the depth of field also could not be controled. Then the staff fixed that sigma lens into their canon 40d,it was working,and that staff told me that i was cheated, he said my camera was produced for Japan user so it could not use the lens disigned for EU. I feel really upset and dont know how to solve this problem.

if u believe that, u suck!

1. if there is no problem with your lenses on 40D, it is save to assume no problem. Because I have similar experience with my Nikon D200 on the Sigma 70mm macro. The lens cannot be focus while there is some strange motor sound. I immediately remove the lens, the D200 is still working with any other lens.

2. the only restriction on lens & camera bodies for EU is that they should not contain harmful substances such as leaded glasses (very popular in lens before 2000) & lead-containing motherboards
