I am thinking to get a external battery pack for my 580. I saw ebay selling after market for much less price. anyone used it before? is it still good compare to Canon's one?

Yes indeed. I got mind Yongnuo SF-18($280) battery pack in 深水埗 and is working fine with my 580ex II. I've been using for half year now and the recharge time is still reliably fast. FYI, I only use Sanyo eneloop AA batteries.
