I have 5DII and Canon 50 f1.8 and F to EF mount adaptor.
Want to buy a better prime len, manual focus is ok for me.

After reading some posts, i have the following choices:
(1) Sigma 50 f1.4 ~$3xxx
(2) Canon 50 f1.4 ~$2xxx
(3) Nikon 50 f1.4 (F mount) ~$2xxx
(4) 福倫達40mm f2.0 (F mount) ~$2xxx

Any Ching have the exp. using (3) and (4) in Canon FF and how about the pq of the comparison of these lens? or any other recommondations? My budget is below $4000

I've compared Nikon 50/1.4D v. EF 50/1.4

Nikon is sharper at F1.4 and F2. At F2.8, EF 50/1.4 takes a marginal lead. No idea on the other 2 lenses. Also considering Sigma but there were too many adverse comments on the AF ... headache

What's the adverse comments on the S50 f1.4's AF? I know that the pg of S50 is generally better than C50 (since it is designed for DSLR and C50 is a rather old len) and the performace of HSM is similar to that of USM (especially C50 is not a ring USM).

In fact, I heard that many chings has changed their C50 with S50.

paras. 2-4 ... bold texts in particular ... and micro-adjustment won't help ...

forgotten to mention the test conditions of 50/1.4D v. EF 50/1.4:-

- 5DII set to aperture-priority, ISO 400, 1/200 flash sync
- tripod-mounted with bounce flash from 580EX/ST-E2
- 50/1.4D + F-EOS adaptor - 10X LiveView MF
- EF 50/1.4 - micro-adjusted AF
- subject is a colorful Disney poster on the wall

also tested 50/1.8D which trails EF 50/1.4 at F1.8 and F2.8
