This may not be len & body compatibility.

I had one similar experience with Tamron 70-300mm couple years ago.

The len worked properly but subbenly it induced this problem at ~150mm. Tamron CS told me the cable inside the len flipped at this focal length and caused an error to 400D body. The error eliminated after the len had been repaired.

I suggest you bring the len to repair.

I have the same problem when using an old len 28-80 F3.5-5.6, it works probably at the range of 28mm and F4.0, the error appears when using longer range.

Should I repair the old lens or just leave it and use other lens?

You can try to fit the len to other body. If error also happen, this is len problem.

My len was under warranty so that it had no cost to me. But if your len was too old, it may cost you several hundred dollars to repair. Even inspection cost may charge you HK$200~400.
