I have a 7D + 24-70 2.8L but frankly speaking it is not wide enough for taking scenic veiw at the 24mm end because of the crop factor and the f2.8 aparture is the only point i consider when i bought it last month.

I tried the EFS 17-55mm 2.8 also before and the PQ is good too but just no "red ring" in the lens! its range is more suitable for APS-c body.

LOL! No wonder I saw so many people using "RED RING" lens in Disneyland yesterday. I should avoid using RED RING at all. Just kidding, You have the right to choose whatever you want.

I am using 7D. I bought 17-55mm instead of RED RING lens because the PQ, Aperture (F2.8) and the range (28-88mm). Personally, I prefer a 28mm over 36mm therefore I chose 17-55mm. If you think the range 24-70mm (36-112mm) is better range for you then you may consider the 24-70mm.

If you MAY upgrade to Full Frame in the future, you should buy 24-70mm because the 17-55mm can only be used in APS-C body. (I plan to keep my 7D even upgrade to FF because the advanteage of APS-C vs FF is in super tele area. (300mm F4 is a lot cheaper than 400mm F4.)

for 5D MII, 24-70 F2.8L surely the right choice. (for 5DMII, you dont have to consider 24-105)
