i also asked the same question before.
THe shopkeeper in DCareer answered that the Sigma 50mm is better because it has a bigger lens surface.. better absorption of light..

sigma is better since canon 50mm f1.4 is 1993 product, although it also has USM, it not very fast . And i try both, sigma image is sharp and the outlook is cool !

as c50.4 is an old lens which is not designed for digital camera... therefore the edge and corner PQ is not good as s50.4...

S50.4 is better for the range 1.4 to 2.8
C50.4 is very soft at 1.4, usable @ 2.0, and better than S50.4 @ 4.0 afterwards
