I assume shutter count matters since there are shutter life ratings published by Canon (see below link). If you own your camera from day one I guess the file number sequencing can be use at a proxy at some degree until you reach the round robin threshold. So I assume shutter count is specially important when buying re-sell camera body. I always wonder does aperture matter? For example I would think the shutter will have more movement for opening wider for f/1.2 vs. f/16 and more movement = more wear and tear (smile).

Having said that I also think we should not worry too much about shutter count. Most likely the shutter life will out last your interest of the given camera anyway. Look at your photography friends around you or yourself. Although I am sure there are some, there are just not that many cases where they buy a new camera because the old one reached its shutter life. So just keep on shooting and be happy :).
