Are the corners of this lens really bad on FF? Are they worse on the wide end or the long end?

Have been used this lens in 350D, 40D and 5DII, never find any problem on the bad corner.

The only difference is using in 350D I give it 65 marks, in 40D 80 marks and in 5DII 93 marks.

I am currently in the market for an ultra-wide lens. But having read numerous comments regarding the shortcomings of the 17-40 L (such as this http://www.cameralabs.com/reviews/Canon1740L/page4.shtml) I am a bit hesitant to give it a try...

i remember that dpreview says it's wide end is sharper than the long end.
it generally gets very good comments from most reviews. i'm a user of this lens and u may see my comments.

This is a great lens "for the price" on FF such as 5D2. On the wide end there is some noticeable vignetting but it is not that bad in my opinion. Some correction can be made in post processing in DPP or Lightroom. And with the high resolution of 5D2 you will have plenty of room to crop if absolutely needed.

This picture is at 17mm with some minor straightening. Hope this helps.

Based on ACanonGuy c-hing's picture, the corners do look a little soft - details of the curtains at the upper corners are not very well resolved. Vignetting may have something to do with this though...

Hellohermit, obviously you are looking for a very special lens irrespective of the budget, then Canon EF 14L f2.8 is for you!
