Hi C-hing,

I am a new beginner and want to buy a EF100 F2.8 marco USM.

However, I would like to know should I need use a tripod if I take a marco photos (eg. inserts).

For IS (L) and non IS model, the amount difference is around HKD3000, I just want to know which lens should i buy?

Marco 鏡有IS, 可以大大提高手持拍攝合焦嘅成功率~~~~~

小弟覺得俾多差不多$3,000係值嘅, 因為除咗加入IS之外, 解像度仲提高不少, 斗膽講句, 可以排名Canon鏡三甲之內(只是小弟意見...), 小弟下一支入手應該係佢 = )

EF 100mm f/2.8L Macro IS USM是世界首支配備佳能混合型光學影像穩定器(Hybrid IS)的微距鏡頭，亦是佳能首支防手震微距鏡頭。在微距攝影時，相機的平移式震動與傾斜式震動往往令所拍攝的影像不夠清晰銳利外，更會影響相片原有的構圖。混合型光學影像穩定器不單具備過往影像穩定器的角速感應器，針對傾斜式相機震動作出修正；更首次加入加速度感應器感測平移式相機震動的幅度，讓拍攝者在手持相機拍攝下亦能拍出清晰銳利的微距相片，加強微距拍攝的靈活度。

Macro 鏡有IS, 可以大大提高手持拍攝合焦嘅成功率 x 2.

However, I usually use tripod to do macro with live view 5x/10x and manual focus if all possible. I don't have either of the 100mm macro. I have the canon 180mm f/3.5

If you have strong interest in taking flowers / toys / products for macro, then you may consider 100L, however, good macro photos are usually taken on tripod, hence the IS is not much useful. Personally I'll prefer to choose the 100 non-L version

If you have interest in taking butterfly as well, then you better consider 180L instead.

If you just want to take macro and protrait at the same time, then 135L is your choice and you won't regret. I tried to use 135L to take butterfly and posted 1 photos in my profile. You may have a look and feel what it is like as well.

回樓上, 135L係Canon其中一支定焦L... 人像銘鏡之一 :D
