Have a bit of free time today and looking at some online review.

Realise both new lenses are very expensive and about the same price. A big price jump compare to the previous model

Just referencing to an older post by 2470 bro.

Seems like the top of the range lenses by every manufacturer are sky rocketing at the moment. Both just happening on Nikon or Canon in particular.

Honestly.. nothing we can do.
Unlike you Piero, you are professional, even the lens are expensive and you will consider to buy it. Because it is your profession and is worth to upgrade the gear since it is your capital good to earn more money.

But for someone like me, i am just a ordinary person who wanted to enjoy taking pictures. I cant or i should say i am not happy to afford such a expensive lens like that.
70-200 VR2 is expensive but i think it is quite a reasonable price, the quality of it i have no doubt about it... but what about 24.4? 35.4? I dont really understand which part of the lens worth 14k HKD and 20k+ HKD....
I don't really get it...

Hi Piero.... there will always be supply if there is demand... =) too bad we live in a world with a lot of people willing to pay big money (whether worth it or not) for the best equipment they could get.... an amateur photographer like me will just have to suffer.... =)

Paying 4-5k more for the 70-200 VRII still seems a bit too much for me....

True that paying 4-5k for VR2 is kind of dear. But we have to count on currency rate and inflation too.. I am not saying it is cheap but is understandable since 70-200 VR2 is kind of 皇牌 of Nikon Zoom tele range... But still, a lens which i will not happy to afford..

FreeMilk bro, you are really straight on the point. =D Seriously, if it is not a good tool for work and my if my living is not depending on my tool, I really don't see any reason paying for that price for a piece of "hobby equipment" ... The one more psychological benefit is, it make me work harder and try to earn it back as soon as possible =p

Especially those 24.4 or 35.4 ... It is totally crazy.

No doubt on the built and picture quality of the lens. But I am unsure no if the quality improvement can justify the price increase or not. Especially for the new prime lenses just release recently.

The mighty invisible Nano coating really do the magic to improve on the quality and the selling price for Nikon now =p

From this 70-200mm f/2.8 VRii, I believe Nikon spend lots of time on research and development to make all the complicated elements work together.

But for prime lens, I really can't see how they can charge such a high jump in price.

I suppose they spent money to improve the quality of the lens so as to match the higher resolution/pixel count of the new bodies. Some people said, for example, for Canon 5DMkII the limitation is in the lens not the body, and if you want higher picture quality/resolution, manufacturer needs to improve the lenses they make. I guess that may be the reason why the new lenses are getting much more expensive.

I wonder the true value of "N" coating of Nikkor lens! All the new lenses are equipped with N coating with price doubled.

Any Ching can tell whether it is due to the complexity of technology or merely a money-making strategy?

I have no doubt about the Nano coating. Have been talking with lots of my friend as well. Like Jason Boland (the professional photographer who shoot Matrix, Mummy and Karate Kid 2 movie poster, google to see his profile).

We all agree the Nano coating did a great job to cut off lens flare and colour fringing.

We all call that mighty nano coating, coz we can't see it, we can't touch it, but it is there and working hard to do it's job and it works =p

Good to know and hear from some pro like Jason Boland(although i dont know him till you name it, :P sorry) Thanks for share their words.

But i have no doubt hows the Nano coating effect the picture in positive way. Is true that it can cut off flare and color fringing.. but to paying double for a single function... mmm.. this is the key point for most of the people like me... I prefer having 缺憾美。。 Somehow, some point which is not perfect making a perfect picture...

I am actually quite agree with you. Especially in regarding to the Nano coating on the new prime lenses just released.

Coz obviously there is nothing much revolutionary can be done on prime lens to justify that price difference.

Sometimes I really hope people from Nikon can see our conversation on the board.
