Why Sigma 50mm F1.4 so big ? 77mm ?

I'm sorry that I know only little about camera !

I have a nikon 50mm F1.8 but it is very handy.

Why Sigma so big ? Is it will be better for picture image ?

Believe it is 82mm.... Nikon 50.4 G is 77mm

My understanding is (although might be wrong) that it will help reduce the dark corners and improve corner sharpness of the picture...

If you have tried the Nikon 50.4 G you will notice the dark corners is quite obvious... whether this effect is good or not depends on people...

All good lenses are big and heavy.

It is 77mm, not 82mm.

Yes sorry, it is the 24-70 that uses 82mm...

"all good lens are big and heavy" is too much of a generalization... 50.8 is good too... but is small and light... 35.2 is another good example...

heavy is more related to the materials and the complexity of the components they use inside the lens... unfortunately not directly related to "great quality"....

個人認為大直徑有助改善黑角現像。睇過好多好多 50 f1.4 嘅review。就算S50.4 顏色或sharpness 唔喺最好(我覺得sharpness 喺最好，顏色見人見智)。 但是唯獨S50.4 喺77口徑，黑角情況最低。而且要明白， 1.4 to 1.8 雖然只是一級光圈，但是其實入光量是相差一倍。最外嘅鏡大一倍都唔出奇。

a bigger size barrel and front lens element can also reduce the so call cat eye bokeh 口徑蝕
in terms of quality of bokeh，I guess sigma 50 1.4 is the best of all the commonly available 50mm lens

50.4D > 55mm
50.4G > 58mm
50.4EX DG > 77mm

濾鏡大小受許多因素影響，在想當然下，大是較好的。但這並不是定律。

50.4D和50.8D一樣，都是52mm。
