HK model camera and Gray market camera ,( water & Hong ) ? Post time: 10 月 11 日 |
|
|
When North America or Australia model cameras using in HK or the other way. Are these cameras considered as gray market model or a Hong models ?
This is surely a confusing issue.
In a sense , this is surely an import model . Where does it draw a line ?
The cost to ship the camera back to the country of origin for warranty work are higher to pay from your own pocket for the repair.

Get the Hong goods from the country you live in or you spend the most time in... you asked question regarding water/grey market goods before... if they pose such a big question mark to you and if the repair cost is a major considering factor you should direct your question to Nikon CS.

The give you are simple answer.
Buy the camera from the country you are living in. Especially when you are buying high end camera.
If you buy camera from Australia (travel), and then use that in HK. Yes, it is regarded as grey market product in HK.

Maybe I am just not bright enough to understand, why don't you simply buy from CANADA? Then it will be a "hong" goods in your country and need not to keep burdening yourself with questions regarding which is better (HK Hong vs water)

johnmayhoney,
If you are buying a D3s, I strongly recommend you go ahead with the authorised stock.
Reason being it is back up by a much better warranty system. Also as you are moving onto the professional camera range, you maybe joining the NPS program later on ... whose know, right?
If you go for grey market product, you lost all the support straight away.
Also as some other user suggested, if you can afford a D3s, who don't you risk to go for grey market??
There are endless sad story about how bad it could be about the water goods, and the seller will never help to resolve any issue.

I understand the question now. You are comparing:
1) D3S hong goods sold in Canada
2) D3S hong goods sold in HK
3) D3S water goods sold in Canada
If you live in Canada, then there will be no warranty for 2) and 3). If you want to take that risk, may be you could consider water goods sold in HK (cheaper than 2) and 3) and you take the same risk).
You need to consider the price difference between 1) and 2)/3). If the difference is small, you should opt for warranty.
Hope this is helpful.

Hi brother pigpig2000,
You are right on the Nikon warranties .
The HST 12% tax recently imposed is a killer.
I am trying to waive some of the tax being out of the country for a period of time. ( $ 750 approx. )
Thanks
John

At the end, there is simply no reason to risk getting a non-warrantied item by saving a small amount (as a % of the price of the camera). The HST is a fact of life, is it worth losing all the warranty and support from Nikon? I don't think so.
You are getting a top-end product, you shouldn't be "cheap" on it (sorry, that's the best word I know to describe it). If price is a concern becuase it is for leisure use only, then probably D3s isn't the right choice for you... hope you don't mind me being too straight forward....

you also need to think about how easy to find a camera repair shop in Canada and the how much they carge.
In HK it is not too hard to find a local repair shop and it is not ‘that’ expensive.
