Anybody using Hitachi 4GB MD?
Anyone knows how to format it as FAT16 with 2GB capacity?

Format it in Windows and choose FAT16 as the filesystem, or use a FAT16 only camera to format it.

I wonder if the MZ3 support FAT32 which is required for >2GB partitions. If it doesn't you'll have to use FAT16 and limits the capacity to 2GB. (you may format it as 2 FAT16 partitions but the camera probably can only recognize the first partition).

Partition it in Linux system, then format it under WIndows XP, choose FAT16, dafault cluster size. You will then have a 4GB FAT16 MD! FAT16 can handle 4GB space, not just FAT32.

Thanks cmyk! You're right, FAT16 in NT based Windows can be up to 64KB in cluster size thus 2^16 * 64KB = 4GB addressable.

I wasn't aware of it.

Though I'm not sure if every digicam support 64KB cluster, but obviously quite a few do.

Make Partition by using Win XP installation CD-ROM (Boot from CD-ROM), then format it in Xp by using the following command.

"format/a:32K/fs:FAT32 drive:"

My experience is none of the camera can support FAT 16 with capacity over 2GB. Seems this to be the limitation set by the DOS.
However, for a MP3 (Creative) just cost you US 200 or 2780 Hk Dollars, which is still cheaper than those 2GB CF card.
