If your camera supports multiple exposures it can be done in one picture and should be relatively simple and you don't need post processing. If your camera doesn't support multiple exposures you will need to do some merging in post processing with two or more pictures. Using a black card may work in some cases for long exposure shot i.e. fireworks.

You said "Photoshop" do you mean the Photoshop software or "Photoshop" as a generic term for pixel editing? For the Photoshop software you can do it in either Photoshop CS4 or its small brother Photoshop Elements 8. Do this in post processing will be more involved than doing this in-camera.
