These photos pay special attention to the multi-faceted vitality of birds in the 3 phases of spring so that they fulfill the比賽主題:留意春季充滿生機的景像。The 3 phases these photos portray are:
1. Early spring – The weather is very similar to the winter and creatures have not yet rebuilt a brand new life. My photos display the elegant hunting style of a bird (the OUTER beauty).
2. Mid-spring – Life is being rebuilt but the process is still fragile. As the reserve prepared for the cold days is almost exhausted, most creatures struggle to survive these hardest days in a harsh environment. My photos display the INNER beauty of the strong and persistent vitality.
3. Late spring—Life rebuilding is getting momentum. My photos display the beauty of flying birds in the good days in late spring.
Winter is the dry season in Hong Kong and the rivers become shallow or even dry in the early and mid-spring. The birds realized that it was too danger to fly or jump partially into the shallow river to fish. This kind of birds has learnt, through thousands of spring since the invention of boats by human being, to step down along a rope that tied a boat to the riverside for catching the fishes. Where the rope was above the water, the motion of this bird was so stylish that it looked like a female gymnast on a beam (平衡木). It was also stylish when the bird caught the fishes. Unfortunately, that position is too far for my packet DC with only 3X optical zoom (even with added 1.8X digital zoom) to create a good composition, so those photos will not submitted to this competition. If required, I can travel to DCFever and Microworks to show these photos on my camera to prove that I am telling a true story and have taken real documentary photos.
