不幸於日前因糖尿病引起的併發症病逝，享年60 歲。

隱居三十多年的Pink Floyd第一代靈魂人物Syd Barrett(1946-2006)，在上週五(7月7日)於Cambridgeshire的家中與世長辭，享年六十歲。有說他因糖尿病併發症病逝，也有指他癌病逝世。
早年在他領軍下的Pink Floyd，灌錄了Arnold Layne等等單曲以及The Piper At The Gates Of Dawn(1967年)這張驚世駭俗的迷幻專輯，而奠定了樂隊那充滿幻想力、實驗性而別樹一幟的迷幻路線。然而當時Syd由於不能自拔地沉溺於迷幻藥LSD，而變成難以跟隊友合作，最終樂隊在1968年初投票通過將他罷免。
脫離Pink Floyd後，Syd曾先後在1970年內出版過兩張官方個人專輯The Madcap Laughs和Barrett，兩者皆有前Pink Floyd隊友協助他灌錄而成。然而他的個人發展卻未見起色，繼而更決定歸隱，從此在樂壇上消聲匿跡。三十多年來他一直在母親的劍橋老家居住，直至逝世。
Pink Floyd在1975年專輯Wish You Were Here裡的Shine On You Crazy Diamond，便是向他致敬。
