Keller's extremely rare and mysterious 2019 Riesling G-Max displays an intense lemon-yellow color and opens fascinatingly deep, pure, refined and highly complex on the stony, intense and concentrated nose. The palate is a continuation of the nose and reveals beautifully balanced, seamlessly silky-textured richness and mouth-salivating salinity. Sourced from the oldest vines of the family domain, this is the greatest wine I have had from Keller and one of the finest 2018s I have tasted.

Cask sample, tasted blind. Smoky aroma marked by fumy note from ambient-yeast fermentation. Spicy minerality. Really tight and almost chalky in the texture. High, mouth-watering acidity. Dusty, too, that chalky mineral character I associate with limestone. Apparently the site for this wine is even higher in limestone than Hubacker. Lime and herbs in the tension. Massive concentration here and spice on the finish. Really stony, persistent and the citrus power swells on the finish. A stony grip that has the distinction of a site rather than pure power. Density and power but still mouth-watering.
