A ‘Victory’ finger signal – Salute to all firefighters worldwide

It shocked the whole town to learn that two brave firefighters were killed when battling the mini-storage facility inferno which broke out at industrial building inferno in Ngau Tau Kok in Hong Kong on 21th June, 2016.

To recognize the significance of the sacrifice and dedication of our two great heros, Thomas Cheung, and Samuel Hui Chi-kit, who sacrificed their lives when fulfilling duties., posthumous Gold Medals for Bravery, the highest honour for bravery in town, have been awarded to the pair on 1st July, 2016. To express the deep grief by members of public concerning the loss of the two great heros, a day of remembrance should be set up as well in near future. Also, in order to give full support and enhance staff morale among the Fire Service Department, I strongly suggest that a campaign of promoting a respective finger signal should be launched by SARG and among Fire Service Department of which it could send an important message to our brave firefighters whenever the public join hands to show our heros the said ‘V’ sign (stands for victory) by holding a V sign with our hands with ‘Forefinger’ (F stands for ‘fire’ ) and ‘Middle finger’ (M stands for men) apart. The combination of forefinger and middle finger implies ‘Firemen’. The holding of the V sign by our hands symbolize full support given by the public and our wish to pray for victory by firemen in any firefighting battles.). Actually, it is a global concern regarding the safeguarding of human’s life and property. Regardless of races, genders, age group, family background, and other identities, any society should cherish and respect dedicated brave firefighters. Without firefighters, everybody’s life will be put at risk.

Regarding the V sign, five fingers stretching out symbolizes division of labour is demonstrating the entire team in full strength make the utmost efforts in putting out the blaze.
