Hi herman,
I find that a standard night scene shutter and aperture setting would be a good start. Observe the sky, and you may find that the lightning tends to strike at certain places. Then mount your camera on a tripod, setup your desired frame and keep shooting, and let the lightning strike into your frame. The quality of the photo would then depend on the brightness of the lightning. Check out my album:

I've posted a few more photos there, just to illustrate the outcome when the lightning is not bright enough.
One thing though, you MUST shoot in RAW, because you can adjust the exposure +/- afterwards to refine the brightness of the lightning.
