物品介紹
Exquisite pre-War Summar (1937) serviced at ROLLEICA™. (Pix #1)

1. Optically this one, from a collector’s arsenal, is as good as one could find. It has stayed w/ Doug for quite some time, and he never shows it to any guest coming up w/ a ‘good’ Summar,

2. It comes with a dedicated SOOMP hood in original packaging, itself a rare find. Almost never seen in places like Ebay coming with original package. (Pix #2)

3. Front element of Summar is flint glass, hardness like that of limestone. One w/ front surface nearly impeccable is extremely rare (Pix #3). 99% front el. are heavily marred like this (Pix #4).

4. Another feature of Summar is its unique upheaved hexagonal diaph. (12 blades of 2 shapes (Pix #5)) which, over time, becomes very tight/stagnant. A Leica literature described it as being ‘nightmare for Leitz assembly line workers.’ Overhauling them in a very deep & narrow lens barrel is a torture. Doug only does this in rare occasions – for these w/ a near perfect front el., which’re worth the time.

5. Over time, metal diaph. blades may become slightly magnetized, ‘attracting’ tiny metal particles. esp. along blade edges. These tiny metal particles will affect sharpness & bokeh. Hexagon shape is now perfect without any such intrusion. (Pix #6).

6. Aperture ring is now almost frictionless, focusing helicoid butter smooth. (Pix 7, 8). Note: Summar aperture ring has not detents (clicks).

When asked why Summar has such a weird upheaved diaph. design, Doug says:
I think it’s related to lens barrel diameter (Ø).
Summar 50 2.0 barrel Ø: 29mm
Elmar 50 3.5 barrel Ø: 27mm
Elmar (M mount) 50 2.8 barrel Ø: 29mm

Summar is 2 f-stops faster than Elmar 50 3.5 while barrel Ø is merely 2mm thicker, a remarkable feast – the fastest lens produced by Leitz at the time (1933) while maintaining a tiny size. While slower Elmar-M has the same Ø. Barrel Ø was a concern as large Ø will obstruct SM body’s viewfinder. That’s why a complex upheaved diaph system was devised. Barrel Ø is less of a constraint for M, so this design was then dropped.

【附件/Acc.】
1. Dedicated hood SOOMP (w/ original pack).
2. Front cap ORVZO.
3. Rear cap ORYFO.
A generic plastic rear cap is used. This is the only non-original accessory Doug prefers over original, as the plastic cap brings less wear & tear to lens screw threads.
4. New E34 UV (Hoya).
Doug purchased several dozen in a clear-up sale, just for use on Summar.

Many Summar on Ebay w/ similar/ higher price are in much less condition.
SOOMP by Leitz New York are sold over HK$ 1K.

So, bargain price for condition.
Price fixed. No negotiation.
