1. The Leica 12 x lens is a winner

2. It is very fast (I am SLR user who can't stand for slow gun).

3. It's focus lock button is extremely useful.

4. I like SD card that has a re-writable lock just like a floopy disk.

5. The battery lasts for a long time; and with a spare one, I can $$ on battery cost.

6. It has attention to details, like standard 55 mm ring to add on 2X converter ot polarizer filter, yeah!

7. Overall picture quality is better than the other 2MP machines at work

8. Fairly light.

9. Though I have stable hands from my use of SLR, Image stabilizer is still a great tool.



Other models considered : OM-740 (no IS)

1. Fairly bulky, but forgaveable with the hughe Leica Lens.

2. Very little manual control. I expect full manual control will come with higher MP in an updated version at higher cost. So, it is OK.

3. Flash is weak, just like most other digicams.

4. Camera get hot quickly after use, also common to most other digicams.



Bottom Line: A wonderful outdoor digicam for a lazy guy who is not interested at full manual control anymore.



Other digicams used at work : Canon A40, G2, G3, Nikon 990, Sony Mavica.

Even it is only 2M, it is way better than my 4M pixel snapshot camera on the pixel by pixel level !



-12X zoom make a difference in portrait and wildlife shooting

-very fast operation and burst mode

-good battery life ~200 shots with a single charge

-stick with ISO50 and fine picture quality and you should not see the noise problem mentioned by some users in here

No manual control even though there are quite a few very useful scene modes - I still want to control the aperture to burr the background in portrait shooting.
