Official wine of Queen Elizabeth II’s diamond jubilee. 'Highest score for dry Riesling 2011’, Vinum, December 2012 (along with Pettenthal 2011) Our tiny Hipping vineyard parcel is a real treasure in the Roter Hang area. In late-ripening years, wonderfully filigree wines are created here, moderate in alcohol and brimming with minerality and terroir expression – wines whose development can be followed over decades. This was apparent to the English monarchy many years ago. In 1953, a 1952 wine from our Hipping vines (then owned by Franz Karl Schmitt) was chosen as the Queen’s coronation wine. We are proud that 60 years later, this fine tradition is being taken up again and that our 2012 Hipping will be poured in the royal palace for the Queen’s diamond jubilee. (At the beginning of the last century, Riesling was not only the most noble grape variety but also the most sought after.)
The Hipping R, which was awarded 94 points in Robert Parker’s Wine Advocate in 2011 ('With a bit of residual sugar behind it, Hipping is unbeatable’, FK Schmitt) can already be reserved (delivery March 2014). A fantastic barrel – spicy, intensely mineral but also as light on its feet as a ballerina dancer
