I got this camera for a very low price from a nice guy ($1200), maybe its not a right time to talk about this old digital camera but I have to say this is better then most of the prosumer DC now a day even I heard a lot of bad things about this DC.

優點:
F2.0 Len + ISO 800 + wide zoom 28mm + Swinging LCD handle + Laser AF light + high power battery = a very useful camera u can use at anytime, anywhere!
缺點:
A little bit heavy.... top of the line cameras are alway heavy (good build quality)
Noise problem... Well!! prepare a good set of Neatimage profiles solves that problem lar.

3. Manual zoom and focus rings.
4. Large aperture lens.
5. Accept CF card (GREAT!!).
6. Acceptable start-up time, focus speed and shutter time-lag.
7. Responsive EVF.
8. Magnified image during MF for easier focus conformation.
9. Relatively accurate Auto White Balance. Good colour retention (while skin tone needs some improvement).
10. Good battery life. Excellent battery information.
11. Laser patten for AF assistance in dim light condition. Able to take pictures even in completely dark condition.

2. Very serious purple fringe. Obvious even on ordinary 4x6 (4R) prints.
3. Heavy noise. ISO 64 is clean. ISO 100 is relatively clean. ISO 200 is just fair. ISO 400 and beyond is terrible.
(In overall, the image quality is poor than my later 4 mega-pixel-only Nikon D2H.)
4. SONY lies on its 7 bladed diaphragm. It's not circular! The out-of-focus (Bokeh) is un-natural and urgy.
5. Large smallest aperture (f:8!).
6. It is MF-by-wire (i.e. not full time MF). The focus ring become less sensitive if you rotate it too slow. Difficult to make very fine adjustment.
7. No buffering for RAW and TIFF while writing to the card. The carmea just hang-up there (no reponse) for 15 second or so (base on TIFF and SanDisk Ultra II CF).
8. The RAW image provides no advantage on post-processing compared to TIFF.
9. The camera do not lock the focus after each shot. It just re-focus again (searching the whole range!) even you just keep half-pressing the shutter release after a shot.
10. Totally unacceptable marco performance. Very barral distorted image (like a fisheye) at closest foucing distance at wide end.
11. No indications of what area and how weight distribution for center-weighted metering. (Not even shown in the manual.)

自己係入門級傢伙,談不上什麼心得,不過用落部機都幾滿意.最滿意係整部機個design,包括鏡頭旣手動變焦時旣手感,Body可以上下扭動,buttons旣放位,都令人影得好爽.可以謂係以人為本旣相機.
對焦柜可以cover到差不多整個LCD,好方便.
買828當然被佢支鏡吸引,名牌加上7x & 28mm,一般旣景同人都OK.
不幸旣係佢旣ISO真係有問題, 100都可以,去到200真係麻麻地,再高D真係可以當Special Effect.同埋光圏最小得F8,有時唔夠用.
整體而言828係部好機(當然冇得同DSLR加支L鏡比).但係一般旅行,外出或節日影野都幾好.
