-Two words, cheap price, everyone can afford it
-For $800, I am satisfied with the focusing speed, picture quality and build quality.
-Super light
-Compact
-Good practical zoom range (personal wise)

"Feels plastic", "Unprofessional Look".... these aren't really practical at all, they are just personal wise...

To me, the durability issue is the biggest concern with this lens, since its made out of plastic. I did dropped it once or twice, but it still managed to keep working with the focusing being a bit louder. But again, what can I ask for more when it only costs $800?

People say this lens feels cheap, loud+slow focusing, easy to out-focus, feels like a toy... and many more negative comments. Yes, some of these comments are true IF you compare it to other lenses. But consider its only $800 for a brand new one, I think it's worth every single penny. I don't see any lens in the market right now than can deliver the same amount of picture quality and still be this cheap.

I have been using this lens with the D40 for almost 3 years, been taking great photos using it. If you are willing to spend more time and use it to it's limit, this is truly a great bargain.

cheap, wide angle

too much (when compare to other lenses) 變形, 銳利度 very low

It's great at first, until you bought another lens - It's a kit lens and what do you want.

- compact, light in weight - the best lens for travellers
- 18mm is wide enough to capture landscapes/architecture (i brought this lens to Egypt and it's wide enough)
- 55mm is good for shooting portraits
- very affordable price but with very good quality
- functions are easy to handle
- good image quality - sharp & vibrant colors
- fast auto focusing
- aperture is not really small f/3.5 can handle indoor shooting

been using for almost 1 year, haven't discovered anything negative

perfect lens for DSLR beginners, it's my most frequently used lens because of its very practical zoom range. 18-55mm actually covers most of the situations required.

Good for this price, can try many different configure for this lens.

Don't make u cry when it drop on the floor, steal or get lost :-D

You can dissemble it if you interesting in its internal structure.

This is what I found, but of course, can't expect much
1. Very slow focusing
2. Easy out focus when focusing into deep sky. I always need to turn to manual mode.
3. must use A mode to lock the lens, otherwise, it will shake during carrying. However I always forget.

I try to raise on another usefulness of this lens.

Actually, I don't expect much in this lens, such as its quality and performance. However, this is good stepping stone for me to evaluate the focusing range that I really needs. My consideration includes 17-35mm f/2.8 and Fish eyes.

For 17-35 or 17-55, range are same except f/2.8 of course quality can't compare. But at least you can understand the range coverage.

For Fish eyes, I add a x0.45 in front of it to test a fish eyes effect. I now become 18mm x 0.45 = 8.1mm, the effect is amazing then I expected and have fun.

However, it is G lens, I can't try micro :-(

Let's challenge your creativity on this lens as it is not expensive. Even broken down, you can easy buy another for replace again :p

便宜，18mm Wide Angle好用。

支鏡感覺好似玩具，影像質素一般，部PROSUMER MINOLTA A1支鏡比它還銳利。

作為D50的kit鏡，中規中矩啦，但比起D70支kit鏡，一試就先龍與鳳﹗

1.夠靜
2.對焦快
3.成像不錯
4.夠輕

1.光圈太細
2.好似有點紫邊

一枝幾好的入門鏡,許多環境都能夠使用

平(幾百蚊)、輕、性能價格比高。

太膠、無手感、太似玩具。

以唔洗錢計(套裝鏡)，有N記品牌、SWM對焦、ED鏡片、非球面鏡片，仲想點？
其實影像質素的確唔錯，不過心理作怪或者焦段唔夠，始終 Kit lens 玩一陣就會好少玩甚至唔再玩。
Anyway,一支有水準既Kit lens。

影象質素很好, 輕身, 對焦快&可近距離對焦, 18mm暗角出奇地比D70kit好.

無內對焦, 桶狀變形比D70kit差, 外型...

一支超值的廠鏡: Nikon品牌 + AF-S + ED + SWM = 幾百蚊... unbelievable.
如果大家有呢支鏡, 可以買個closeup filter 玩下, 影象比起一d有1:2macro的副廠鏡好好多. 屋企影product一流^^

D50 Kit Lens, 平得黎質素相當不錯,
影風景的話你只要將光圈收到F8便可以得到不錯的影象
鏡身輕, 方便帶出街snap shot

呢度要更正Dcfever 一樣野,
呢枝鏡係沒有內對焦(IF) 的
對焦時鏡頭前端會有輕微轉動,
一般拍攝情況下當然無問題,
但係如果用家用上CPL
又或者天涯那些漸變FILTER 便很頭痛了
當你扭好晒FILTER 以後, 再半按一下快門對焦,
鏡前端轉一轉, 用家又要重新較過, 這個實在是幾煩

同埋佢o既桶狀變形比起18-70MM(D70/D70S Kit Lens)
黎得嚴重一些

總括黎講係一枝唔錯的入門風景加人像鏡
如果可以加返內對焦會更加好

輕, 對焦快, 影出嚟嘅相一啲都唔差, 平!
