- It is much more sharp than you'd expect given the aperture and shutter speed
- It is light compared with other lens in same range. That's made the len 5 stars!!!
缺點:
- The minimum focus distance is also somewhat poor at 2.3m
- the autofocus is ssssslooooowwww
- Teleconverters are not recommended with this lens.

The VR80-400 is the perfect companion to my big lenses. I am confident that when I go out into the field with the 600 AF-S or 400 AF-S and the VR80-400 over my shoulder (and maybe a 17mm lens in my vest pocket), I am ready for just about anything that runs or flies my way. The VR80-400 is one lens that will see a lot of use!
Excellent Optics out to 300mm. Fully sharp into the corners up to 200mm, with some softening in the corners of 35mm film images by 300mm. At 400mm, the widest apertures are noticeably softer and provide less contrast than at 300mm, but still quite serviceable. In all, a quite respectable performance for the range. On the digital bodies, hard to fault optically.
- It weighs less than the Nikkor 70-200. Due to that, as well as its great optical quality and freedom from ghosting this VR.
- Bokeh is neutral at 135mm & 400mm. It looks not so great at 200mm.
- Few Distortion only
- It's got a lot of plastic that this saves weight, which is a Godsend. It's light and has a lot of plastic on the outside, however the quality is very high.
- VR works great from 80 through 300mm, but at 400mm it's still tough to get perfect images at slower speeds.
- I'm amazed it has no Flare and Ghosting!
缺點:
- AF speed is slow
- Close Focus = 7.5 feet (2.3m), not that great for most of the focal range covered.
- NOT good for sports or low-light motion photography

This lens is a miracle. I bought one in August 2004. It's small, sharp, light and has very little distortion and flare, possibly the only 80-400 zoom on the planet that can do this. Not only this, but the VR feature actually works, allowing you to shoot this long lens handheld in all sorts of light. As I recall the Tokina 80-400 is well made but has a lot of distortion and I have no idea how sharp it is.
This lens is perfect for the wander-around-and-see-what-you-find photography I do. It is NOT good for sports or low-light motion photography due to the slow f/stop and slow autofocusing speed.
