比依家的新機kit lens 18-135mm好好多。

- Smaller in size (compared to my Tamron 18-270 VC)
- Larger aperature at tele side (5.6, vs 6.3 of the Tamron)

- No USM (come on Canon, Nikon provides AF-S to their 18-200 VRII !!!)
- Focusing ring moves during AF (but I can live with that)
- Not cheap
- Hood not provided
- Tele end is sharper than the wide end
- The zoom mechanism gets loose quickly and extends automatically (the lock is useless since it can only lock at the wide end, I wish I could have a lock that can lock freely at any focal length)

My comments are mainly based on comparison between the Tamron 18-270 VC and the Canon. I must say that before using the Canon I was satisfied with the Tamron. The tele end sharpness of the Tamron is just so-so but it is accetable after some PS. The pictures from the Canon are sharp even looked at original size. Of course we are not comparing with the SWIS II which is unfair. I have used many lenses from both Canon and Nikon and this 18-200 IS does worth every penny! For those who want to carry just one lens with you (especially in these hot days) you should consider this lens seriously. I highly recommend this lens (especially when you are comparing it with the Tamron)

For beginer, it is good enough for all applications : no matter for group photos, outdoor, indoor, close up, children ..... , however, quality cannot match with other professional portrait lens.

缺點:
居不送hood，較重，180-200mm時效果不明顯，色一般，不夠sharp，室內暗位不能對焦。

一句到尾，用得天涯鏡，質素一定不及其他鏡，只是考慮廠品牌，價錢，其實用性。
我就滿意這支野表現，比較之下，咪覺貴law，但我也仍會用canon 的。
相信用50d 用家更會接受這支天涯鏡，除黑角都重要啊！

This lens does it all for Canon's 1.6x consumer DSLRs. It focuses super fast, zooms from wide-angle to super-telephoto, and gets close enough for macro shots. It could be the only lens you ever need for most Canon DSLRs.

On this Canon, the AF mechanism is far more primitive. It's quite a pain to have to stay clear of the focus ring during AF, and have to move a switch to get to manual focus. Poo.

呢支係我第一支LENS,初學影相時連450D 購入,一路唔打心得係因為小弟自覺影相水平唔夠,去到今日小弟都覺得勉強CARRY到呢支LENS,所以先提起勇氣打用後感.
總括黎講,呢支鏡係"一鏡走天涯"既完美選擇,因為影乜都OK,但如果係鍾意聞相既師兄,呢支鏡既成像質素一定唔能夠滿足你地,因為真係麻麻地.
